UK Opera Theatre to Start Season With Verdi’s 'La Traviata'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2017)University of Kentucky Opera Theatre will start the season with Giuseppe Verdi’s popular melodrama "La Traviata." The production will take the stage Oct. 6-8, at the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

“La Traviata,” the original “Pretty Woman,” explores the life of famed, but ailing, courtesan Violetta, who is frequently on the arm of the wealthy and powerful. Alfredo is a young bourgeois from a provincial family, eager for love. After a fateful meeting at a Parisian salon, their lives are forever intertwined. Will their love survive disapproving family, the costs of appearances and possessive society? Or will Violetta fall before her time?

The curtain rises for “La Traviata” 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6-8, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8. Tickets are $38 for general admission, $33 for senior citizens, and $13 for students with a valid school ID. Processing fees will be added to transaction upon purchase. The acclaimed UK Opera Theatre program is part of the UK School of Music at UK College of Fine Arts. The school has garnered a national reputation for high-caliber education in opera, choral and instrumental music performance, as well as music education, music therapy, composition and music theory.
