Night Closure of S. Limestone Lanes for Pedway Work

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 10, 2009) - Construction crews will start night work this week to finish installing the new pedway over South Limestone between Waller Avenue/Cooper Drive and Gazette Avenue. The work will close one lane of South Limestone in each direction.

The work will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, and reduce traffic on South Limestone to one lane northbound and one lane southbound, Mondays through Thursdays, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The work will continue through 6 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010.   Some work could be done on Friday nights if rain prevents work Mondays through Thursdays.

No work will be done on holidays, or nights when there are UK men’s basketball games at Rupp Arena, and major concerts in downtown Lexington.

Workers will be installing panels, windows, roofing, soffit and electrical systems to the steel pedway that is now in place. The work will be confined to an area on South Limestone between State Street and Transcript Avenue.

The pedway will serve the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital that is also under construction. The work is being done for UK by ASI Limited. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet asks motorists to use caution when traveling through the work area.
