UK Athletics Hall of Fame Induction is Tonight

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2018) An impressive 2018 class of University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Famers will be inducted during a ceremony tonight (Friday, Sept. 21) at Kroger Field’s Woodford Reserve Club.

Russ Cochran (men's golf), Anthony Davis (men's basketball), Victoria Dunlap (women's basketball), Dennis Emery (men's tennis coach), Eric Quigley (men's tennis) and Jacob Tamme (football) comprise this year’s induction class. The new inductees will also be honored during the football home game 7 p.m. tomorrow (Sept. 22) as part of Hall of Fame Weekend.

Russ Cochran, Men's Golf, 1975-78

Cochran was First-team All-SEC (Southeastern Conference) in 1978 after leading UK to top-five finishes at the SEC Championships in each of his final three years and the SEC individual runner-up in 1978, the same year the squad won its first-ever outright tournament in program history at the Marshall Classic. He has played professionally since 1979 and is still active on the PGA Tour Champions. Cochran has a total of 10 professional wins, including one on the PGA Tour and four on the Champions Tour. His best year on the PGA Tour was 1991, when he won the Western Open and had a pair of second-place finishes. For many years, Cochran was the only left-handed player on the PGA Tour.  He finished in the top 10 twice at the PGA Championship and won the British Senior Open in 2011. He has amassed more than $13 million in career earnings.

Anthony Davis, Men's Basketball, 2012

Davis led UK to the 2012 national championship and was the unanimous national player of the year. He also was named national freshman of the year, SEC Player of the Year, SEC Defensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year. Davis was tabbed the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player after blocking six shots and grabbing 16 rebounds in the title game. A NCAA Consensus First Team All-American, he guided UK to a 38-2 record and SEC regular-season championship. Davis shattered the single-season school record for blocks in a season with 186, which ranks as the fourth in NCAA history and was selected No. 1 overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. He is a six-year NBA veteran, five-time NBA All-Star, three-time All-NBA First Team member, the 2017 NBA All-Star MVP and a 2012 Olympic gold medalist.

Victoria Dunlap, Women's Basketball, 2008-11

First-team All-America as a junior and third-team All-America as a senior, Dunlan was a two-time SEC Player of the Year and an SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Before becoming a two-year WBCA All-Region, she was a first-team All-SEC as a junior and senior and second team as a sophomore. She led her UK team to NCAA Elite Eight as a junior and ranks top 10 on numerous UK career lists, including second in games started (133), rebounding (1,099), blocks (178), free throws made (445) and free throws attempted (714); third in scoring (1,846), steals (307) and double-doubles (31); and sixth in games played. Dunlap was the first UK player with more than 100 assists, 100 blocks and 300 steals in her career and just the second player with more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. She played two seasons in the WNBA.                                                                            

Dennis Emery, Head Men's Tennis Coach, 1983-2012

Head coach of the men's tennis team for 30 seasons, Emery's teams won 568 matches, never losing to an in-state opponent. He took UK to 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 11 trips to the Sweet 16 and four appearances in the Elite Eight. UK earned 23 final top-25 rankings during his career, including seven final top-10 rankings. Emery coached 19 Wildcats to 38 All-America honors and guided three players to the finals of the NCAA singles championship, including Eric Quigley, who tied the NCAA record for singles victories. He was named SEC Coach of the Year three times and won the SEC team tournament championship in 1992 and the regular-season championship in 2012. Emery had 655 career victories, including his five seasons at Austin Peay University.

Eric Quigley, Men's Tennis, 2009-12

The winningest Wildcat in school history with 172 victories, Quigley tied the NCAA record for most singles wins in a career. He was a five-time All-American, three times as a singles player and two times as a doubles player, and the 2012 SEC Player of the Year. Quigley went undefeated in the SEC his senior season and was captain of UK's 2012 SEC championship team. He advanced to the finals of the 2012 NCAA Singles Championships. Quigley helped UK appear in the NCAA Tournament four times, including a quarterfinals appearance in 2011 and two Sweet 16s. He also helped Kentucky finish in the top-10 rankings twice. As a team, UK racked up 100 wins during his career, including 28 his senior season. Quigley is a recipient of  the ITA/Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award.

Jacob Tamme, Football, 2004-07

A consensus first-team All-SEC as a junior and senior, Tamme's career totals featured 133 catches for 1,417 yards, most ever by a UK tight end, along with 11 TD receptions. He helped UK to Music City Bowl wins in 2006 and 2007. His outstanding senior season featured 56 catches for 619 yards and six TDs, earning fourth-team All-America honors. Tamme won a National Scholar-Athlete Award from the National Football Foundation, was first-team Academic All-America and SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in football. He was named to the National Good Works Team for community service and received the Bobby Bowden Award as FCA National Player of the Year. Tamme played nine NFL seasons with Indianapolis, Denver and Atlanta.

The UK Athletics Hall of Fame was started in 2005 to recognize and honor persons whose participation and achievements enriched and strengthened the university's athletics program. The charter class included 88 individuals who previously had their jersey retired by UK.

A committee consisting of Hall of Famers, media members, campus representatives, and current coaches and administrators elects new inductees each year.
