LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 10, 2018) University of Kentucky faculty and staff members can play a major role in making incoming students feel welcomed over the next two weeks by volunteering for Big Blue Move-In and K Week.

Big Blue Move-In is UK's residence hall move-in.

The majority of this year’s move-in is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 15-17, at which time around 2,000 students will move into residence halls each day.

Volunteers are needed to give students and families a warm welcome by helping unload their belongings and directing them through the move-in experience. Big Blue Move-In is an important way the entire campus community can make a difference in students' lives.

Any individual or group interested in participating can find a list of volunteer opportunities and the volunteer sign-up form at https://auxweb.ad.uky.edu/MoveIn/SignUp.

For more information on Big Blue Move-In visit www.uky.edu/housing/fall-2018-move-in.

K Week is the university's welcome and orientation week for all undergraduates.

More information can be found at www.uky.edu/KWeek, and faculty and staff are invited to participate in all K Week events. An easy way to get K Week information on the go is to download the UK Guides mobile app to access a full schedule of events, maps and more. K Week events that may be of particular interest to UK faculty and staff are:

Parent and Families Reception

From 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in the Gatton Student Center, families are invited to an informal reception while students participate in the K Week Kick-off. Families of new students will be able to meet faculty, staff, administrators and UK Parent Advisory Council members. They’ll be able to learn more about the Parent and Family Association, purchase tickets to some Family Weekend events, and participate in Letters from Home.

The UK Parent and Family Association needs volunteers who can greet guests, mingle and answer any questions the families may have. To volunteer for this event, click here.

Super Start

Super Start provides the opportunity to welcome students and assist them by answering their questions and giving directions to classes and other campus locations. Super Start will take place during the first two days of classes, Aug. 22 and 23.

Staffing is needed for information tables located (1) outside the Gatton Student Center, (2) on the sidewalk near the White Hall Classroom Building facing the Ralph G. Anderson Building and (3) near William T. Young Library. The tables will be in operation from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

To sign up for a shift as a Super Start volunteer, please click the links below for whichever day/location you would be willing to volunteer.
