WUKY Holding Online Valentine Auction Fundraiser

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2013) — WUKY FM 91.3, the University of Kentucky's NPR station, is holding its first online auction fundraiser. WUKY's Valentine auction offers a wide range of items for every budget from travel to jewelry to chocolates.  It began Jan. 31, and runs through Valentine's Day at this website: http://www.benefitbidding.com/listings/categories/index.cfm?category=1042144174

Several Lexington artists, designers, and retailers, as well as WUKY, have donated items for the Valentine auction.

Tom Godell, general manager of WUKY, says he is excited about being able to offer an auction online and the radio station hopes to have two others later this year.  "In the past we’ve held a live, on-air auction, but the online format allows us to open up the auction to a much larger audience and to offer a wider array of items than we could in the limited time we had for the live event."

Funds generated from the auction will go toward programming on WUKY.

"The funds will be used to fund WUKY’s award-winning news service, to produce local programs like 'Rock and Roots,' 'Joe’s Blues,' 'Hillbilly Solid,' and 'Curtains @ 8,' which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary," Godell said. "The money we raise through the auction will also help pay for signature national programming from 'Morning Edition' to 'Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me' to 'A Prairie Home Companion' and beyond."
