Adelstein Deadline Approaches

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2012) — Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Carol S. Adelstein Outstanding Student Award

First presented 1984, the Adelstein Award is presented annually to the student with a disability who best serves as an inspiration to the University of Kentucky community through excellence in any or all of the following areas: academic achievement, leadership, extracurricular activities, and social and/or personal qualities.

Nominees may be full- or part-time students.  A nomination should include the student’s name and a letter of support addressing their qualifications to be considered for the award. This information should be mailed to the Disability Resource Center, Room 2, Alumni Gym 0029, or by email to jkarnes@email.uky.edu.

The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 20.

The Adelstein Award is named for the late Carol S. Adelstein, the wife of former UK English professor Michael Adelstein. Carol Adelstein, who used a wheelchair due to the effects of polio, inspired many people by leading a meaningful, successful life at a time when individuals with disabilities were not encouraged to be independent, contributing members of society.
