LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 12, 2011) − With the economy the way it is today, many people find themselves living to work when, instead, they should be working to live. How do you find the balance between work life and meeting family and personal obligations? University of Kentucky Work-Life Program Director Robynn Pease has answers for this confusing question.

"It's not even about balancing anymore, it's about managing," Pease said. "Self-care is key to your success."

Pease will speak at the next Third Thursday Professional Development Series program, titled "Managing Your Work and Life Responsibilities." The program is hosted and sponsored by the UK Alumni Association's Alumni Career Services. Open to UK alumni as well as UK employees, the next Third Thursday series will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the King Alumni House. Before and after the program, participants will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and casual networking with fellow alumni and employees. The cost of the program is $5 for UK Alumni Association members and $8 for non-members. Online registration is required. The registration deadline is noon Wednesday, April 13.

Pease will provide strategies for balancing work and personal life challenges. Strategies will include utilizing employer-based flexible work arrangements, employer-based child and elder care, health and wellness programs, and other resources to make it all work.

“It would be a good opportunity to network with UK alumni and UK employees and learn more strategies to effectively balance work and life responsibilities that we all have,” said Caroline Francis, a career counselor for UK Alumni Career Services.

The Third Thursday Professional Development Series was implemented to give UK alumni opportunities to meet and network with one another in addition to learning about a vital professional topic. Each Third Thursday session kicks off with food and networking, then moves on to a speaker or a panel on a professional topic. The night ends with food and more networking opportunities.

The last Third Thursday event of the spring will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 19. This series will take place at the Hilton Suites Lexington Green and will introduce participants to speed networking.

Parking for the April 14 session is available in the “E” parking lots behind the King Alumni House and the James W. Stuckert Career Center off Euclid Ave.
