C-SPAN Campaign 2012 Bus Visits UK

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2012) — Fresh from the vice presidential debate in Danville, C-SPAN’s Campaign 2012 Bus makes a stop at the University of Kentucky from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday to share and enhance C-SPAN’s extensive resources and political coverage.

Parked near the intersection of Administration and Patterson drives next to Buell Armory, the bus welcomes UK students, faculty, staff and the Lexington community — as it has others around the nation — giving them an inside look at C-SPAN’s comprehensive educational and political resources.

The visit is sponsored by UK Student Government.

Journalism, political science and communications students in particular are encouraged to visit the Campaign 2012 Bus to learn about C-SPAN’s programming and how it can be adapted for use in a variety of ways, from blogs to class projects and assignments. Students learn how to clip, save and share video from C-SPAN’s Video Library, an archive containing 190,000 hours of programming that dates back to 1986 and includes historic events, speeches and conventions. C-SPAN also invites active political student groups or candidate volunteers to come on board for an insider’s view of C-SPAN’s coverage of the upcoming presidential election.

Visitors will learn about the following programming and resources via HD TVs, touch screen computers, laptops, and mobile devices:

·         C-SPAN’s in-depth public affairs event coverage

·         C-SPAN’s Web offerings, including archived video going back to 1987 through C-SPAN’s vast Video Library and Congressional Chronicle

·         Many ways to connect with C-SPAN on the go including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, YouTube, XM Radio, and iPhone and Blackberry apps.

During the visit, C-SPAN representatives will encourage participants to comment on the presidential candidates and the issues most important to them in this election cycle. Their responses, captured in 15-second videos via Smartphone and shared instantly, will be uploaded onto various C-SPAN social media platforms, including C-SPAN’s own Tout page (http://www.tout.com/cspanbus). Responses will also be highlighted on C-SPAN’s "Washington Journal."  To see previous visits at earlier locations, visit http://youtu.be/D0t-KSYlatk
