CAER to Host 'World of Coal Ash' Meeting in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 5, 2013) — More than 500 people, including experts in the ash industry from around the world, will convene April 22-25 at the Lexington Convention Center to participate in World of Coal Ash 2013.

Every two years, World of Coal Ash (WOCA) is hosted by the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) and the American Coal Ash Association (ACAA). Lexington has been the site of WOCA several times.

Throughout the conference, attendees have the opportunity to hear from exemplary plenary speakers, attend a selection of more than 40 sessions and 140 presentations, visit an exhibition area with over 60 exhibit booths, and network during a variety of conference events, including a reception at the Headley-Whitney Museum.

The lineup of sessions this year brings a bit of change to WOCA, a change that attendees should be excited to see. The technical sessions include:

  • 10 ash pond sessions;
  • two Kingston sessions, titled "Kingston Ecological Investigations: Results-to-Date" and "Application of Kingston Ecological Results in CERCLA and NRDA Processes";
  • three sessions on regulations;
  • two liquefaction sessions, a topic new to WOCA;
  • six cement and concrete sessions;
  • six chemistry sessions; and
  • three utilization sessions.

Each WOCA conference features a short course to kick off the week. This year’s short course, being offered on Monday, April 22, has been updated to offer attendees an even greater value. The 2013 Short Course covers cenospeheres (high-value materials that float on ash ponds), as well as sessions covering ash ponds, toxicity, and coal ash regulations.

Generous donations have been made from more than 70 companies and organizations to help make World of Coal Ash 2013 a success. Exhibitors bring innovative products and technologies to the trade-show floor, demonstrating to attendees how they are working to make the industry better at every turn. Support from our sponsors allows attendees the opportunity to have amenities such as wireless internet, daily coffee and refreshment breaks, breakfast and more!

Registration will be in the Lexington Convention Center from 2-6 p.m. April 22, from 7-5 pm. April 23-24, and from 7 a.m.-noon April 25. To learn more about World of Coal Ash, please visit http://www.worldofcoalash.org.
