Campus Comes to Life with K2

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 10, 2012) – Classes don't start until Wednesday, but the fun and excitement of campus are already in full swing, as new and old students alike return to campus for K2.

K2 is modeled after K Week, the university's official welcome week each fall, and is designed to help new students transition to life at the University of Kentucky and welcome all Wildcats back to campus.

“I am energized by the excitement that comes with the start of a new semester," said UK President Eli Capilouto. “I extend a heartfelt welcome to our returning students as well as the new students who will now call UK home. I wish all of you a challenging, fulfilling and fun semester.”

New students are strongly encouraged to participate in today's K2 Kick-off, in a day of presentations and activities designed to help them get off to a great start at the University of Kentucky! Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required; online registration is available at www.uky.edu/K2 along with a more detailed schedule of events.

The day will begin with an official induction into the University. Following the induction ceremony, Alan DeSantis, one of UK’s most popular faculty members, will offer tips for academic success. The K Book Editorial Board and Student Ambassadors will offer insights on all aspects of student life both in and out of the classroom. Brief afternoon presentations will include information on parking and transportation and how to stay in-the-know about campus activities. At the conclusion of the orientation, an optional campus tour will offer new students a chance to find their classrooms.
