LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 16, 2015) — Student Activities Board's Multicultural Affairs Committee and the Indian Student Association have teamed up to bring Holi 2015: The Indian Festival of Colors to campus from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 17, on Administration Lawn in front of the Main Building.

The celebration of the holiday is in honor of the arrival of spring, which is signified by the throwing of dye in the air by a large group of people within the community. The campus community will be given the same opportunity to participate in the arrival of a much awaited season and imitate the throwing of dye in celebration.

The event will showcase and demonstrate several aspects of Indian culture, such as food, dancing, music, traditional attire and, of course, the main event of the throwing of the dyes.

"We are so excited to celebrate multiculturalism in such a unique way with Holi — the Indian Festival of Colors,” Kristyn Cherry, director of Multicultural Affairs, said. “Everyone is encouraged to come out and explore the different booths we'll have ranging from authentic food, language lessons and free novelties, as well as a few special performances and of course the fun throwing of color dye!"

All participants are advised to wear white during the dye throwing portion of the event, as this is a tradition for the holiday and also will allow a more vibrant appearance of the dye. T-shirts and prizes will be given out throughout the event.
