College of Arts and Sciences' Podcast Features Terence Tunberg

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 27, 2012) — The College of Arts and Sciences produces podcasts that demonstrate work being done by the faculty and students in the college. Each week, UKNow will highlight a podcast. This week features Terence Tunberg, a professor in the Division of Classics and the director of the UK Institute for Latin Studies.

Latin may no longer be the standard language in everyday conversation, but its use spans far beyond the fall of the Roman empire. On March 5, Dirk Sacré, a professor at the Catholic University of Louvain Belgium, will discuss Latin's lasting literary legacy, in his talk, "A Vast and Unexplored Continent: the Latin Literature of the 18th Century." The talk is in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Graduate Curriculum in Latin Studies, based in the Division of Classics in MCLLC, and will take place at noon in Room 208 of UK's White Hall Classroom Building.

In this podcast, Tunburg describes the importance of Latin in modern literature. He also discusses the lecture and Sacré's research.

The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Modern & Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures, the Department of History, and the Department of Philosophy.
