Commonwealth Stadium Expansion Project to Impact Parking

LEXINGTON, Ky.  (Dec. 13, 2013) — The Commonwealth Stadium expansion and renovation project is set to begin in late December. Construction and staging fencing will be erected prior to the end of the calendar year, which will block 833 parking spaces. These spaces will be blocked throughout the duration of the project, which has an expected completion date of October 2015.

The majority of the impact (721 spaces) will occur along the south side of Commonwealth Stadium, in the Blue Lot (K), while a smaller number (112 spaces) will be lost in the Green Lot (C6). Additionally, the connector between the Green Lot and Red lots, in the northwest corner of the Stadium, will be permanently blocked.

During UK’s 2014 Spring Break, an additional 249 spaces will be eliminated along the west side of the stadium to accommodate stadium plaza expansion. During Spring Break 2015, an additional 249 spaces will be lost throughout the Commonwealth Stadium Red and Blue lots for installation of landscape islands. More information on these additional impacts will be released closer to their start dates.

At the completion of the Commonwealth Stadium expansion and renovation in the fall of 2015, 658 parking spaces — those that were used for staging purposes — will be regained and introduced back into the university’s parking inventory. A total of 673 parking spaces will be lost permanently due to this project.

Employees and students who park in the Commonwealth Stadium vicinity are encouraged to allow extra time in their commute and to familiarize themselves with parking alternatives in the area. A campus parking map can be found at www.uky.edu/pts/parking-info_parking-maps.
