Construction to Impact Veterans Drive and Hospital Drive June 27-28

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 25, 2013) ― Veterans Drive and Hospital Drive on the University of Kentucky campus will be reduced to one lane of traffic Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28, due to milling and paving work on both roads. Flagmen will be located at either end of construction on both streets to direct motorists in the area.

UK Parking and Transportation Services says all parking spaces, including disabled spaces, located within the construction area will be closed. Temporary disabled parking spaces will be added on Hospital Drive and University Drive. Signs will be posted to reserve these temporary spaces.

For a map of the impacted area and of the temporary locations for disabled parking, visit http://www.ppd.uky.edu/CampusMaps/MedCenter_PavingProjects.pdf (PDF).

CATS buses transporting passengers from the hospital areas to and from Commonwealth Stadium will operate on a regular schedule during this time. Some drop-off and pick-up points may be moved to avoid the construction site for safety reasons; signs will be posted at the Health Sciences Research Building and Pavilion A if the stop locations change.

Anyone who normally travels in the vicinity of Hospital Drive and Veterans Drive should allow extra time for their commute. Drivers are encouraged to use caution as they navigate the area.

The construction work is expected to take two days. However, as always, construction is weather-dependent and the timetable may change.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to tune into 1700 AM (WQKH 253) to hear campus parking and transportation information. The station broadcasts 24 hours, 7 days a week.
