Counseling Center Sets Screening Event

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( Feb. 16, 2015) — Feeling down, irritable, avoiding friends, having trouble sleeping, losing or gaining weight, lacking motivation, crying often, thinking about suicide?

It could be the weather.

It could be depression.

Kentucky is ranked third in the U.S. for incidence of depression, with 23.5 percent of adults experiencing depression at some point during their lives, compared to 18 percent nationally.

So, don’t assume, guess or ignore how you feel. Talk to the experts.

Professionals of the University of Kentucky Counseling Center will be available at an upcoming screening from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Student Center, near Starbucks, to help students complete a brief questionnaire and to confidentially discuss the results. Information on treatment resources and mental health issues will also be available.
