Day Three of 'Big Blue Crush' Blood Drive
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 20, 2013) — Today marks the third day of the 26th annual Big Blue Crush between Kentucky and Tennessee.
After the first two days of the friendly blood drive competition, Kentucky led by a slim margin, 1,419 pints to 1,332.
Donors this week will receive a long-sleeve Big Blue Crush T-shirt and a coupon for a McDonald’s McCafe’ beverage.
Big Blue Crush helps ensure a sufficient blood supply for Kentucky patients during the Thanksgiving holiday and into December. The overall record between Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) and Medic Regional Blood Center in Knoxville is 12 to 12 with 1 tie.

Blood donors must be 17years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
KBC, the largest FDA regulated blood bank in Kentucky, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics in more than 60 counties. KBC relies on volunteers to donate 400 pints of blood per day to meet area patients’ needs. Over the last year KBC distributed nearly 130,000 blood components.
