Director of Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues Appears on Washington Post Blog

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2013) — Al Cross, director of the Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues at the University of Kentucky, a position he’s held since 2004, was recently interviewed  by the Washington Post blog The Fix discussing Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell’s role in finding a resolution to the federal government shutdown.

Prior to accepting the post at UK, Cross spent more than 26 years as a reporter at The Louisville Courier-Journal, the last 15 as the Louisville newspaper's chief political writer. His coverage ranged from presidential to local elections and included all facets of state government. After serving as interim director, in 2005 he was named permanent director and an assistant professor in the UK School of Journalism and Telecommunications, where the Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues is based.
