LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 12, 2013) — The University of Kentucky Institute for Workplace Innovation (iwin) has announced Fazoli’s is the honoree of the second annual Dr. Lee T. Todd, Jr. Bridging the Gap Between Workplace Research and Practice Award.
The award recognizes former University of Kentucky President, Dr. Lee T. Todd's vision in creating an institute committed to Kentucky's workforce challenges through engaging organizations in academic research, learning opportunities, and sharing best practices to implement in the 21st century workplace. As the award honoree, Fazoli’s will receive a one‐year partnership to join iwin’s Innovative Employer Roundtable and participate in exclusive events. Todd will present the award at iwin’s Innovative Employer Roundtable meeting May 8 at the University of Kentucky’s Hilary J. Boone Center.
Lynn Bertsch, iwin’s director of employer engagement, says, "We look forward to having Fazoli’s join the Innovative Employer Roundtable and sharing its stellar commitment to innovative employment and work-life fit, which earned them the award. We hope they will benefit from the expertise, networking, and best practices our existing partners consistently tell us they value. Last year’s Dr. Todd Award recipient, the 3M Company, was so impressed with their experience that they decided to join after their year scholarship expired, which we believe provides further testimony to the Roundtable’s unique offerings."
Fazoli’s is a privately owned business created in 1988 under a multi-brand restaurant group in Lexington, Ky. The company currently operates approximately 217 restaurants in 26 states. Fazoli’s, which features classic Italian dishes, focuses on innovative employment and work-life fit practices, in addition to customer service, integrity, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence.
"Fazoli’s is honored to be recognized as the recipient of the 2013 Dr. Todd Award," said Fazoli's CEO Carl Howard. "Being founded and headquartered in Lexington for the past 25 years makes this award especially meaningful. We'd like to thank The University of Kentucky's Institute for Workplace Innovation for partnering with Kentucky employers and setting the bar high for future workforce development in the Bluegrass.”
The Innovative Employer Roundtable Steering Committee selected Fazoli’s as the honoree after reviewing numerous applications from impressive Kentucky organizations and personally interviewing two finalists. The scholarship, effective for one year beginning in May, will include attendance at the May and October Roundtable meetings. Subsequent scholarships will be offered each year in May and are open to applications from any Kentucky organization beginning in November 2013.
