Elder Care Offers 'Lunch and Learn' Sessions

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 17, 2014) — University of Kentucky employees who provide care for older adults are invited to bring a lunch and learn about important topics at UK Elder Care's 2014 Spring Lunch and Learn Series. 

 

The series begins on Tuesday, March 25. Each session is free and open to all UK faculty, staff, retirees, spouses and sponsored dependents. Tuesday, March 25: "Self-Care: The Key to Longevity and Staying Healthy"

Leo Boisvert, a chiropractor with Malabu Family Chiropractic who focuses on "whole wellness," will discuss longevity and staying healthy, not only for ourselves, but so we can take care of older loved ones.

 

Wednesday, April 9: "Overview of Nursing Home Care"

William T. Young Library Gallery Room

12:10-12:50 p.m.

 

Sherry Culp from the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency will present an overview of nursing home care, how to select a facility, payment options, and the importance of residents' rights and how to advocate for good care.

 

Thursday, April 17: "Virtual Dementia Tour"

UK Gaines Center Bingham Davis House, 218 E. Maxwell St.

Appointments from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. 

 

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a unique simulation experience that allows participants to experience life through the eyes of their friends and loved ones who have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Explore different issues related to being a working mom with this monthly group. Meets the second Tuesday of each month.
