Employee, Retiree Permit Renewal Begins Feb. 1

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2011) – Beginning today, University of Kentucky Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) will accept employee and retiree parking permit renewal applications for permits that expire March 31. University of Kentucky (UK) and Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) employees are encouraged to renew their permits online at www.uky.edu/Parking. Employees may also apply for permit renewal by means of campus mail, or in person at Parking and Transportation Services, 721 Press Avenue (Parking Structure #6) or 110 Transcript Avenue (UK HealthCare Parking Garage). Office hours for permit sales are 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

As part of the department’s ongoing focus on sustainability, PTS has eliminated the traditional information packets sent out via campus mail. Approximately 91% of those eligible to renew online do so; therefore, PTS decided to reduce paper waste and communicate with the eligible groups electronically.

Veterans Affairs Medical Center employees and UK retirees may only apply for permits by mail or in person. These groups will receive application materials at work and via mail, respectively.

Employees applying prior to March 1 should receive the new permit at the address of their choice on or before March 31. Permits ordered after that date will also be mailed to either campus or home addresses; the online application will be available until March 25.

Employee permits will remain the same price for the 2011-12 permit year ($31 per month, or $372 a year). Retiree permits fees will also remain the same price at $5 per month, or $60 per year. Retirees who retired from the University prior to July 1, 1995, are eligible for permits at no cost.

All outstanding parking citations must be paid before a permit application is accepted. Citations may be paid online at www.uky.edu/Parking.

Eligible UK and BCTC employees may payroll deduct permit fees on a pre-tax basis. Pre-tax registration forms must be completed each year and can be completed online during the permit application process. For those who apply by mail or forget to apply for pre-tax deduction during the online application process, the form is available at http://www.uky.edu/Parking/services-deduction-enrollment.html. UK Retirees and VA employees are not eligible for the pre-tax exemption.

To complete an application, applicants should have on hand their correct home or work address and a MasterCard or Visa if not eligible for payroll deduction. If the permit is for a new vehicle, employees should have their license plate number available. UK employees must have their link blue login and password; BCTC employees must use their KCTCS username and password.

PTS will control some student lots for permits during the summer months. These lots will be controlled for any valid UK permit. Summer permits will be available for students; parking for special events should be arranged with the PTS Special Events Coordinator. More information about summer parking policies can be found at http://www.uky.edu/Parking/parking-breaks-summer.html.
