Events Support Kentucky's 'Wounded Warriors'

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 2, 2011) — As the nation observes the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition will be paying tribute to Kentucky's "Wounded Warriors" with a weekend full of events, including a silent auction and golf tournament.

The events are intended to raise funds to support programs on behalf of Kentuckians who volunteered to serve in the military and who became seriously injured mentally or physically.

"Wounded Warrior Weekend" kicks off on Friday, Sept. 9, with a "Wounded Warrior BASH and Silent Auction" at The Barrel House in Lexington (download PDF flyer). Sponsorship opportunities are available at several levels, from $50 up to $6,000. The evening will feature live music, food and drink, and a silent auction featuring trips, autographed memorabilia, jewelry, artisan-crafted merchandise and more.

Saturday, Sept. 10 will be Military Appreciation day at Commonwealth Stadium, as the Kentucky Wildcats host the Central Michigan Chippewas.

The weekend's activities culminate in the Second Annual BMAC Wounded Warrior Celebrity Golf Tournament (download PDF flyer). Golfers are encouraged to find sponsors and three-person playing teams to be paired with a Wounded Warrior, who will be the celebrity member of each foursome. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

The Bluegrass Military Affairs Coalition is supported by the University of Kentucky Veterans Resource Center and the UK Student Veterans Center, which are among its member organizations. Tony Dotson, coordinator for the UK Veterans Resource Center, is the BMAC's chairman-elect.
