Exciting Times for MBA Program; Open House Jan. 22
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 15, 2013) — Students in the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics MBA programs, including the cohort in the immersive, one-year, full-time edition and the part-time evening sections are indeed busy as they tackle this new year of 2013.
The MBA Student Association has organized three clubs for students to participate in: Entrepreneurship, Marketing, and Investment. These clubs are in the process of scheduling a number of well-known outside speakers who will soon be coming to campus.
The one-year MBA students are in the midst of an interesting module on Global Business and Strategy. This course is being taught by trade specialists from the World Trade Center of Kentucky, including Edwin Webb, Darren Srebnick, and Ying Juan Rogers. Also helping to ensure that these students will be 'world ready' upon completion of their degree this spring are specialists from Lexmark, Ashland, Alltech, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Commercial Service, EX-IM Bank, and international trade attorneys from the firm of Wyatt Tarrant Combs.
In several weeks, these students will begin the Supply Chain Module, which will culminate at Gatton's annual Supply Chain Forum in March. The MBA students will present their projects in the supply chain competition as part of the forum.
And, in addition to a team of UK students taking part in the first Alltech Innovation Competition this weekend, several other MBA business plan teams will represent the Gatton College in campus, state, and regional competitions throughout the winter and spring. Among these opportunities is the inaugural Southeastern Conference (SEC) Business Plan Competition, which will take place at the University of Missouri in April.
"We love to challenge our students and frankly, they love to test themselves in real- world situations," said Gatton MBA Director Harvie Wilkinson, who also heads up UK's Executive Education Center. "In addition, the business professionals our students get to interact with receive a first-hand look at the outstanding talent coming through our programs."
The MBA Winter Open House is coming up Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Boone Center on the UK campus. For more information and to RSVP online, visit
