Final Word on Sustainable Agriculture

Lexington, Ky. (Oct. 7, 2011) — The campus community is invited to hear Mark Williams give his Final Word on the importance of sustainable agriculture at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10,in the William T. Young Library Auditorium.  This event is free and is sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

Williams is an associate professor in the Department of Horticulture, the director of the Sustainable Agriculture Undergraduate Program, and the director of the UK Organic Farming Unit at the University of Kentucky.  He is the second speaker to be featured this semester as a part of the Final Word series.  This series allows UK faculty and staff as well as local leaders within Lexington the opportunity to be heard on a more personal level to discuss a topic as if it were their last lecture.

"I am very excited for this particular speaker,” said Sarah Jones, SAB’s director of Engaging Issues Committee. ”I want students to hear about these things and become aware of them because I believe that will spur them on to better, more responsible ways of living, particularly in their food choices and being aware of our agricultural economy and how they can help.”

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually.  These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
