Fine Arts Institute Offers Creative Classes for Adults
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2012) − The University of Kentucky's Fine Arts Institute is again offering a variety of classes this spring that explore different aspects of art and creativity. The classes are all offered as noncredit art courses and are perfect for adults with busy work schedules. Courses range anywhere from woodworking to Photoshop editing and are offered from the beginners' level to the more advanced.
Three times a year, UK Fine Arts Institute offers weekly classes as well as some weekend workshop options to suit various types of schedules. The classes meet either once or twice a week, on weeknights or during the day on the weekends. This spring there are 14 total courses being offered, 10 weekly classes and four one-time workshops. The classes and workshops will all be held at one of four buildings on campus: the Fine Arts Building, the Metal Arts Building, the Reynolds Building or the Lucille C. Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Computer Lab.
Most of the weekly classes start in February and run through April with no classes during UK’s Spring Break, the week of March 15.
The classes being offered include:
- "Painting for Everyone" with Christine Kuhn, on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 2;
- "Continuing to Draw" with Kuhn, on Saturdays beginning Feb. 4;
- "P.E.M.A. Painting" with Kuhn, on Saturdays beginning Feb. 4;
- "Living a Layered Life: Felting and Shibori Dyeing" with Laverne Zabielski, on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 7.
- "Woodworking" with Lynn Sweet, on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 14;
- "Ceramics" with Jill Stofer, on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 14;
- "Beginning Drawing" with Kuhn, on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 14;
- "Beginning Metal Working" with Jeremy Colbert, on Thursdays beginning Feb. 16;
- "Beginning Photoshop" with Lennon Michalski, on Mondays beginning Feb. 20 and on Wednesdays beginning March 19; and
- "Advanced Photoshop and Adobe Programs" with Michalski, on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning April 9.
This semester's one-day workshops are:
- "Everything you need to know to start drawing NOW!" with Kuhn, presented on Feb. 5, Feb. 26 or March 25;
- "Everything you need to know to start painting NOW!" with Kuhn, presented on Feb. 12, March 4 or April 15;
- "Digital Photography One-Day Workshops" with Michalski, held on March 24, April 7 or April 10; and
- "Living A Layered Life: Felting and Shibori Dyeing" with Zabielski, held on April 14 and 15.
