LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 28, 2011) − Several University of Kentucky faculty and staff members who were the first in their families to get a college education recently shared their stories on video. The videos are meant to record these unique stories, as well as to inspire current first-generation students at UK who may be dealing with many of the same challenges.

"Our goal is to record the experiences of our first generation faculty and staff," said Matthew Deffendall, director of the First Scholars program at UK. "But this is not where we want the project to stop. We want to continue this collection."

The project is a partnership between UK's First Scholars program and UKIT's Academic Technology Group. Coordinators of the project want to hear more stories from first-generation UK employees. To share your story, contact Deffendall at mbdeff2@uky.edu or (859) 257-3532.
