Fraternity and Sorority Hold 'Mini Masters' Fundraiser
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 28, 2011) – The Masters Tournament may be in Georgia, but the Mini Masters took place right here in Lexington. On Thursday, April 21, the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) Fraternity and the sisters of Delta Delta Delta (Tri-Delt) Sorority hosted a philanthropy event called the Mini Masters. The concept is centered on a putt putt golf tournament with teams of two entering. The winners of the tournament received prizes ranging from $500 to autographed basketballs by former Kentucky basketball star and current Houston Rocket, Patrick Patterson.
The two chapters funded the prizes and the tournament themselves in order to donate all entry funds for the event (money participants had to pay in order to register) to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the national philanthropy of Tri-Delt.
Tyler Fields, philanthropy chair of ATO, said, “The event was huge this year. We’ve raised thousands of dollars in the past for various charities in the Lexington area. This year, we built on previous years’ success and raised the most money yet. It’s an event that is simultaneously entertaining and purposeful. A few celebrities dropped by, too.”
The participants saw former basketball players and even Miss Kentucky 2010 stop by the event and signed autographs. ATO and Tri-Delt are thankful for the support of the event, and the Greek community looks forward to its continued success.
