LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 11, 2015) — In their 12th season, the Bluegrass Area Jazz Ambassadors (BAJA) will present two performances of "A Jazzy Holiday Concert" this holiday season featuring guest vocalists Brett Higgins and University of Kentucky alumna Angie Ortega. The first show will begin 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Kentucky Horse Park Welcome Center. The second show will return to the UK campus 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

The Bluegrass Area Jazz Ambassadors are a popular performing ensemble affiliated with the Bluegrass Area Jazz Association, a nonprofit organization committed to the promotion of jazz education and the performance of jazz in the Bluegrass area. The group comprises musicians from the community, both professional and amateur, as well as students from UK Jazz Studies. They regularly perform in many places including UK's Singletary Center, Ecton Park and other outdoor festivals, as well as with local middle and high school bands.

This 23-piece big band, which came together in 2004, performs under the direction of Miles Osland, artistic director. Osland serves on the faculty of the UK School of Music at the UK College of Fine Arts, where he is a professor of saxophone and director of UK Jazz Studies. UK alumnus David Hummel serves as musical director for the group.
