Gosney to Lead UK Alumni Association

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 10, 2013) — The University of Kentucky Alumni Association recently announced its 2013-2014 board of directors officers. They are Brenda B. Gosney, president; Elaine Adams Wilson, president-elect; David B. Ratterman, treasurer; and Stan Key, secretary. The new officers took office July 1, and will serve until June 30, 2014.

President Brenda B. Gosney, of Butler, Ky., has served four three-year terms on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors. Gosney was elected to the officer position of treasurer for 2011-12 and served as president-elect in 2012-13. She has held several committee leadership positions with the association, including chair of the Budget, Finance & Investments Committee in 2011-12, chair of the Nominating for Board Committee in 2010-11, vice chair of Nominating for Board Committee in 2009-10, chair of the Scholarship and Great Teacher Committee in 2008-09, chair of the Membership Committee in 2005-06, vice chair of the Membership Committee in 2004-05 and chair of the Club Development Committee in 2003-04. Gosney presently serves on the board of directors of the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati UK Alumni Club and is a past president. She is a member of the UK Advocacy Network and is a University of Kentucky Fellow. She was on the faculty at UK for five years as an assistant professor in the Physical Therapy Program of the College of Health Sciences. As a member of the Kentucky Physical Therapy Association (KPTA) and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), she served on the board of directors and held the office of president of KPTA and chief delegate to APTA. She recently served on the board of directors of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Executive Committee as secretary and vice chair of the Health Initiatives Committee. Gosney is a 2010 recipient of the prestigious UK Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. She received her bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Kentucky in 1970 and a master’s degree in higher and adult education in 1975. She recently retired as chief executive officer of HealthSouth Northern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital in Edgewood, Ky. She and her husband, Dennis, are Life Members of the UK Alumni Association.

President Elect Elaine Adams Wilson, of Somerset, Ky., is in her second three-year term on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors. Wilson was elected to the officer position of treasurer for 2012-13. She has held several committee leadership positions with the association, including chair of the Membership Committee in 2011-12 and chair of the Diversity and Group Development Committee in 2010-11. Active for many years with the Lake Cumberland UK Alumni Club, she served as secretary/treasurer, then as club president for three years. She served as a member of the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees for six years. This tenure included membership on the UK Business Partnership Foundation Board, the UK Undergraduate Education Advisory Board, the Executive Committee, the Academic Affairs and Human Resources Committees, the Ad Hoc Committee on UK Affiliate Boards, and a term as secretary to the board. Wilson currently serves as a member of the UK College of Social Work Advisory Board, Lexington Singers Board of Directors, Somerset Independent Schools Board of Education, Pulaski County Library Board of Directors president, the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Board of Directors and the Kentucky Humanities Council Board of Directors. She was a recipient of the Lyman T. Johnson Path Finder’s Award. Wilson was a 2011 recipient of the prestigious UK Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award, and she is a UK Fellow. Wilson serves as the cultural diversity director for Somerset Community College. She received a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in social administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association. She is widowed and has three adult sons: David of Richmond, Ky., Jonathon of Lexington, and Nicholas of Washington, D.C.

Treasurer David B. Ratterman, of Louisville, Ky., has served five three-year terms on the UK Alumni Association Board of Directors. Ratterman has held several committee leadership positions with the association, including chairman of the Diversity/Group Development, Communications, Great Teacher/Scholarships and Nominating for the Board Committees, and served on the Diversity Task Force. He has been a member of the University of Kentucky Advocacy Network since the group’s inception. Ratterman has been involved with student recruitment, special events, diversity activities and the Greater Louisville UK Alumni Club. He is a partner with Stites and Harbison PLLC. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers and is listed in “Kentucky Super Lawyers” and “The Best Lawyers in America.” He serves on a variety of professional committees and organizations, including as secretary and general counsel to the American Institute of Steel Construction. Ratterman is also a retired U.S. Navy commander and a member of the Louisville Rotary Club. He is a 2012 recipient of the prestigious UK Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. Ratterman received a bachelor’s degree from UK in mechanical engineering in 1968 and did graduate work at UK in 1970. He also holds degrees from the University of Louisville. He is a Life Member of the UK Alumni Association and a UK Fellow.

Secretary Stan Key, Lexington, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky in 1972. He also earned a master’s degree in education from Murray State University in 1977. He was in the position of associate director of the UK Alumni Association from 1990 to 1998. Since 1998, Key has served as the director of UK Alumni Affairs and executive director of the UK Alumni Association and as secretary to the association’s board of directors.
