Got B-Ball Skills and Vocal Talents? This Opera is For You

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2015)University of Kentucky Opera Theatre is holding auditions for a world premiere production of "Bounce: The Basketball Opera." The auditions are open to all ages and the program is seeking actors, singers, dancers, athletes (specifically basketball players), cheerleaders and spoken-word artists. Auditions will be held Sept. 10-12, at the Schmidt Vocal Arts Center, located on the corner of Rose Street and Rose Lane on the UK campus.

Basketball may seem like a simple game; put the ball in the hole. But this simple game becomes complex when outside forces affect the player, like money and fame. Will the local star player get the millions? Or will he be another woulda/coulda/shoulda been? Will his story end in triumph? Or tragedy? This is the story behind "Bounce."

Auditions for "Bounce" are open to all ages and UK students, faculty and staff, as well as the Bluegrass community at large. Opera singers auditioning should prepare an aria that best shows their vocal and acting range, preferably in English. Non-opera singers are asked to prepare an American-contemporary jazz, rock, pop, folk or hip-hop song that best shows their vocal and acting range.

The audition times for "Bounce" are 5-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 10 and 11, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. Individuals wanting to try out are asked to call to schedule an audition time at 859-257-9331. More information on the "Bounce" auditions can be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/events/421480364706214/.

Rehearsals for "Bounce" will run Oct. 12-16, Nov. 2-6 and Nov. 9-11. The opera will be staged Nov. 12-13.
