Governor Appoints Two UK HealthCare Representatives to State Advisory Board

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 5, 2012) – Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed two UK HealthCare representatives to the state's Health Benefit Exchange Advisory Board.

Dr. Michael Huang, a general medicine physician at Kentucky Clinic South, will represent non-facility based providers. Ed Erway, chief revenue officer for UK HealthCare, will represent facility-based healthcare providers.

The board will renew programmatic and policy issues and make recommendations for Kentucky's new marketplace for health insurance mandated by the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The Health Benefit Exchange Advisory Board's duties will include: facilitating the purchase and sale of health plans in the individual market; assisting small employers in facilitating the enrollment of their employees in health plans; providing one-stop shopping by helping individuals enroll in health plans Medicaid and KCHIP; enabling individuals to receive premium tax credits and premium subsidies; and qualifying small businesses for tax credits.

Board representatives have relevant experience in health benefits administration, health care finance, health plan purchasing, health care delivery system administration, public health, or health policy related to the small group and individual markets and the uninsured.
