Grand Prix Gala to Benefit Markey Cancer Center

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 22, 2011) — The Markey Cancer Foundation and Hagyard Equine Medical Institute will host the third annual Grand Prix Gala on Friday, Sept. 23, during the $50,000 CSI-W Lexington Grand Prix, a World Cup Qualifier and the final class in the Hagyard Challenge Series.

The gala will honor Betsy Fishback, a beloved member of the sport horse community who received treatment at the UK Markey Cancer Center but lost her battle with breast cancer in January 2009. The gala begins at 5 p.m. at the Kentucky Horse Park's Alltech Indoor Arena, and will offer food, cocktails, a live auction and the excitement of grand prix show jumping. All proceeds from the gala will support cancer patient care and research at the Markey Cancer Center.

"The goal of the gala is to raise awareness and support for the Markey Cancer Center, and we're so grateful to have Hagyard and the Kentucky Horse Park as partners in this mission," said Trish Jaracz, vice president and director of development for the Markey Cancer Foundation. "This is the third year we've held the gala, and I'm excited to announce that it will be our largest event to date with nearly 400 guests expected to attend."
