Have a Holly, Jolly 'Collage' With UK Choirs

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2013) — Join UK Choirs this holiday as they celebrate the season with their 17th annual "Collage" concert.

 

Critically acclaimed vocalists and musicians from the UK School of Music and the Lexington community will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Singletary Center for the Arts.

 

A local Kentucky holiday tradition, "Collage" is presented by UK Choirs under the direction of Jefferson Johnson, director of choral activities, and Lori Hetzel, associate director of choral activities.

 

Featuring the best of holiday music from around the world, the concerts will showcase the program’s highly commended student groups, UK ChoraleUK ChoristersUK Women's Choir and UK Men's Chorus, as well as the UK Choir's a cappella groups, the acoUstiKats and Paws and Listen.

 

Members from the Lexington arts community will also be featured.

 

Special performances include the Lexington Singers, the Lexington Singers Children’s Choir and the community handbell ensemble Alluring.

 

Performances by UK faculty members include appearances by Schuyler Robinson, professor of organ and sacred music, and Scott Wright, associate professor of clarinet.

 

Other UK ensembles scheduled to join in the festivities are the GrassKats, the UK Steel Band and Mega-Sax.

 

Tickets for "Collage" are $24 for adults and seniors, and $13 for students and children. Groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $18. Tickets may be purchased at the Singletary Center Ticket Office, by calling 859-257-4929 or by going online to www.scfatickets.com.

 

The UK School of Music in the College of Fine Arts has gathered national acknowledgment for high-caliber education in opera, choral and instrumental music performance, as well as music education, composition, theory and music history.
