LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2014) – The Late Night Film Series is screening “Beats, Rhymes, and Life” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26.  The series continues with “Watermark” at 7 p.m. and “12 Years a Slave” at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27. “Juice” will be screened at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb, 28.  Admission to all films is free; films will be shown in Worsham Theater, Student Center Addition.

The behind-the-scenes documentary, “Beats, Rhymes, and Life,” explores the music and lessons of seminal hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest.  Documentary filmmaker Michael Rappoport goes on the road with Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. (Rated R, 97 minutes).

“Watermark” brings together diverse stories from around the globe about our relationship with water: how we are drawn to it, what we learn from it, how we use it and the consequences of that use. The film observes water as a terraforming element and immerses the audience in a magnificent force of nature that is too often taken for granted -- until it’s gone. (Rated R, 92 minutes).

Steve McQueen’s brutal and realistic adaptation of Solomon Northup’s slave narrative, “12 Years a Slave,” follows the free black violinist from the north as he is abducted, sold into slavery in the antebellum south, and spends over a decade trying to return to his family. (Rated R, 134 minutes).

A group of young inner-city males campaign for money, power, and respect in, “Juice,” an affecting drama starring Tupac Shakur.  Friendships are tested and lives are lost in their struggle to rise above their surroundings and themselves. (Rated R, 95 minutes).

Worsham Theater is located on the first floor of the University of Kentucky Student Center Addition. All Late Night Film Series screenings are free to students, staff, faculty and guests.
