Hip Hop Showcase Closes Out Sidewalk Music Series

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 13, 2011) – Your walk to class on Thursday just got a little better. Come out to the Sidewalk Music Series Hip Hop Showcase featuring Devine Carama, Emanuel Webb, and J. Hatchett from 1-2 p.m Thursday, Oct. 13, on the sidewalk and front lawn of K-Lair. This event is free and is sponsored by the Student Activities Board.

The Sidewalk Music Series is a six-week concert series that features local Lexington artists and regional performers. This is the final week of the series.

Hailing from Lexington is hip-hop artist Devine Carama. For a couple of years, Carama saw his life going in a downward spiral, but in late 2005, he chose to turn his life around and make music with a message for the masses. Carama has played in venues all over Lexington such as Triple Crown Lounge, Fusion Lounge and Cheapside Bar and Grill.

Kuntry Noiz, featuring artist Emanual Webb is a Lexington-based group combining a sound, substance, and style that is rooted in the unique sound of Kentucky hip-hop. Kuntry Noiz formed in the summer of 2006, and since then has gone on to create a distinct sound of their own while playing in venues all over Lexington.

J. Hattchett is a talented group of young artists, filmmakers, photographers and graphic designers from Kentucky striving to make a difference in the world through their music.

“The Music Series has been a great run for the past five weeks, and I know the Hip Hop Showcase for the last week will be just as successful," said Seth Murphy, director of SAB Concert Committee.

The Student Activities Board brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually.  These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
