Homecoming 2012 Winners Announced

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2012) — Katelyn Brown, daughter of Jamie and Dr. Terry Brown of Hanson, Ky., and Stephen Bilas, son of Paula and David Bilas of Louisville, were crowned the University of Kentucky Homecoming queen and king during halftime ceremonies at the UK versus Georgia homecoming game Saturday, Oct. 20.

Brown is a junior accounting major and honors student and was sponsored in the homecoming royalty candidacy by Alpha Gamma Delta. In addition to her sorority, Brown is also active in many student organizations including TEAM WILDCAT. Bilas is a senior management and finance double major and was sponsored by Chi Omega. He serves as student body president, a Gatton college ambassador and is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Other finalists for queen and king were:

  • Nikki Johnson, a senior exercise science major, daughter of Stacy Cava of Louisville, and Dennis Johnson of Evansville, Ind., sponsored by Pi Beta Phi sorority.
  • Mary Katherine Kington, a senior finance major, daughter of Katherine and Charlie Kington of Madisonville, Ky., sponsored by Sigma Chi fraternity.
  • Liz Pawley, a senior communication major, daughter of Lisa and Dan Pawley of Elizabethtown, Ky., sponsored by Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
  • Logan Sparks, a senior integrated strategic communication major, daughter of Teri and Brad Sparks of Mayfield, Ky., sponsored by Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
  • Eli Edwards, a senior secondary English education and English and linguistics double major, son of Kim and Donnie Edwards of Harrodsburg, Ky., sponsored by Student Government.
  • Josiah Hanna, a junior computer science and mathematics double major, son of Sarah and David Hanna of Lexington, sponsored by Triangle Fraternity.
  • Nolan Jackson, a senior political science major, son of Bob and Karen Miller Jackson of Murray, Ky., sponsored by Kappa Sigma fraternity.
  • Ethan Ritter, a senior animal science and biology double major, son of by Kelly and John Ritter of Butler, Ky., sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

Wildcat Cup winners were Chi Omega sorority, Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow/TEAM WILDCAT.

Earlier in the week, Jamarl Bryant and Desirae Duncan were named 2012 Mr. and Ms. Black UK. Bryant is a sophomore mass communications major from Louisville. Duncan is a junior honors student from Elizabethtown, Ky. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., were each winners of the annual NPHC Homecoming Step Show.

The UK Alumni Association and the Student Homecoming Coalition host Homecoming. Formed in February 2010, the Student Homecoming Coalition has worked diligently to better coordinate many organizations' individual programming into one, unified Homecoming schedule. The coalition is comprised of representatives from the Student Activities Board, the Black Student Union, the Center for Community Outreach and DanceBlue, UK Student Government, Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow and TEAM WILDCAT and the National Pan-Hellenic Council.
