'Hunger Games' Leads Late Night Film Series

LEXINGTON, KY. (Aug. 18, 2012) — The Late Night Film Series will kick off its fall schedule with “The Hunger Games” at the K Week: Student Center Spectacular on Aug. 19. The special midnight screening in Worsham Theater will be free.

“The Hunger Games” is the first film adaptation of the wildly popular teen-lit series of the same name. Sixteen-year-old Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) lives in the impoverished District 12 of Panem, a totalitarian nation which The Capitol rules with an iron fist. As punishment for a previous rebellion, The Capitol forces each district to select one male and one female tribute to partake in the Hunger Games, a live-broadcast test of survival that pits the young adults against each other in a life-or-death battle. When her younger sister’s name is selected to represent her district, Katniss volunteers to take her place. Now she must fight for her life if she ever wants to see her home again. (142 min. Worsham Theater is located on the first floor of the University of Kentucky Student Center Addition. All Late Night Film Series screenings are free to students, staff, faculty and guests.
