Inner Mongolian Dance, Music Make Lexington Debut
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 25, 2012) — The sounds of Inner Mongolia will fill the Bluegrass next week as the University of Kentucky College of Fine Arts and the UK Confucius Institute will present "An Evening of Mongolian Dance and Music," in collaboration with the Arts College of Inner Mongolia University. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall. The event is free, but tickets should be reserved for this program.
"An Evening of Mongolian Dance and Music" will offer a variety of exceptional performances from throat singing to horsehead instrumental music. Colorful costumes, exquisite artistry and unmatched skill make this an unforgettable night of cultural collaboration and exploration.
Of the groundbreaking event, Huajing Maske, the director of the UK Confucius Institute, said, "The UK Confucius Institute is pleased to work with College of Fine Arts to bring to UK's campus and the Lexington community for the first time, the authentic Inner Mongolian dance and music, straight from Inner Mongolia. This performance will be one of the kind Lexington and Kentucky has yet to witness."
The Confucius Institute, UK College of Fine Arts and Arts College of Inner Mongolia will team up again next fall with a "Horse Culture Week" exploring the importance of the horse to both communities. In addition to events like these, UK's College of Fine Arts and Confucius Institute operate an exchange program for art students and faculty at UK and Shanghai University.
Established in 2010, the UK Confucius Institute promotes education about China at UK and across the Bluegrass. The UK Confucius Institute is a center for Chinese language, culture, art and business. As UK’s and Kentucky's gateway to China, the UK Confucius Institute serves as a conduit for UK’s China initiatives, provides leadership and support for the Chinese language programs in Kentucky’s K-12 classrooms and conducts Chinese cultural outreach to the community. Tickets to "An Evening of Mongolian Dance and Music" are free, but are limited to eight per person. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Singletary Center for the Arts at (859) 257-4929 or by visiting the Singletary Center ticket office. Tickets to this event are not available online.
