International Stalking Expert to Address the Community

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 25, 2012) — Karl Roberts, a forensic psychologist and internationally recognized expert on the psychology of violent crimes such as domestic violence, "honor" violence and stalking, will appear in an event open to the general public 1:30 - 3 p.m., Nov. 8,  at the Lexington Downtown Public Library. He will present on "Stalking Risk Assessment: Tools for Criminal Justice."

Roberts, who is British, is currently based at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. He has worked extensively with law enforcement and other agencies on risk assessment and management and has developed stalking risk assessment tools for criminal justice professionals and victims.

While in Kentucky, Roberts will work with stalking expert TK Logan, professor in the University of Kentucky Department of Behavioral Science. His appearance is co-sponsored by the department and the Domestic Violence Prevention Board.

The recently released National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey report indicates that one in six women and one in 19 men in the U.S. has experienced stalking at some point in their lifetime,  in the course of which they felt fearful or believed they or someone close to them would be harmed or killed as a result. Further, that report showed Kentucky had the highest rate of stalking for women in the nation. One in four Kentucky women have been stalked.
