LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 28, 2012) — Celebrate and get in the holiday spirit at the 15th annual "Collage" concerts presented by University of Kentucky Choirs. A local Kentucky holiday tradition, "Collage" is presented by the UK Choirs under the direction of Jefferson Johnson, director of UK Choral Activities, and Lori Hetzel, associate director of UK Choral Activities. The concerts are fast-paced and visually exciting programs featuring the best of holiday music from around the world.
In addition to the UK Choirs, this season’s concerts will feature the Bluegrass Brass, a student brass quintet. The quintet will play lively seasonal favorites during the course of the program, as well as present pre-concert entertainment in the lobby of the Singletary Center.
Other UK faculty members performing in the concert include Schuyler Robinson, on organ; Scott Wright, on clarinet; and Dieter Hennings, on guitar. Other UK ensembles scheduled to join in the entertainment are the GrassKats, the UK Steel Band and the UK Saxophone Quartet.
In addition to showcasing the UK Choirs and musicians at the UK School of Music, each year "Collage" features the rich talents of the Lexington arts community. This year’s concert is no exception as it will include performances by the Lexington Singers Children's Choir and the handbell ensemble Alluring.
The concert's featured solo of "O Holy Night" will be sung by lyric soprano Rebecca Farley, a voice performance senior from Henderson, Ky., who was among the UK winners of the Kentucky District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She will be accompanied by more than 200 singers.
The UK School of Music in the UK College of Fine Arts has gathered national acknowledgment for high-caliber education in opera, choral and instrumental music performance, as well as music education, composition, theory and music history.
