K Week: Causing a Ruckus

of

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 17, 2012) — Start the semester off right, with a ruckus of course! Campus Ruckus will begin immediately following Big Blue U (approximately 9 p.m.) until midnight Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Green Lot of Commonwealth Stadium. This is a free event sponsored by the Student Activities Board Campus Life Committee.

SAB’s Campus Ruckus has become a traditional part of K Week. Activities will include more than half a dozen inflatables, a live DJ, free food and a fireworks show. Free T-shirts will be distributed to students on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9:30 p.m. Aside from the Student Activities Board, students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with other organizations found on campus such as the Center for Community Outreach, TEAM WILDCAT and the African Student Association.

Free food samples will be provided for the Taste of Lexington Competition featuring Joe Bologna’s, Qdoba and Raising Cane’s. Students can text to vote for their favorite and will be allowed one vote per phone. Voting opens Saturday and closes at midnight. A winner will be announced Aug. 22 in the Wednesday edition of the Kentucky Kernel.

Also featured at Campus Ruckus this year will be 9-time U.S. National Champion Mountain Bike Stunt Rider Mike Steidley. The performance is sponsored by UK Parking and Transportation Services and will begin at 10 p.m.

“I am excited about having the new and returning students back on campus for an exciting event,” said Elijah Zimmerman, director of the Campus Life Committee. “Not only will they enjoy inflatables, good music, student organizations and free food but they will get to connect with other students here at UK.”

SAB brings more than 100 entertaining, educational and enriching programs that are reflective of contemporary issues and trends to the University of Kentucky annually. These programs are designed to enhance the college experience for students, faculty, staff and the greater Lexington community.
