Kentucky Collegians Event Recognizes Top High School Seniors

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2012) —  A total of 247 students from 10 different states will be honored for their academic achievement tonight at the annual Kentucky Collegians event, sponsored by the University of Kentucky Office of Undergraduate Admission and University Registrar.

"Graduating from high school and applying to colleges is hard work," said Don Witt, associate provost for enrollment management. "Tonight's event gives these exceptional seniors an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, while exploring some of the great opportunities they can look forward to as prospective UK students."

UK President Eli Capilouto will be the keynote speaker for the evening and will individually recognize each student with a Kentucky Collegians certificate in a UK diploma cover, along with an official scholarship award letter. During the evening, students will be able to converse with faculty and staff and have questions answered about the opportunities available to them at UK.

"These students are among the best anywhere, and we would welcome any of them as freshmen Wildcats next year," said Brian Troyer, director of undergraduate recruitment. "The University of Kentucky has a lot to offer students of their caliber."

Faculty representing UK’s Council of Endowed Professors and Chairs, as well as current Singletary Scholars and other UK staff from all of UK’s colleges and other areas such as Education Abroad, the BS/BA/MD Program, Undergraduate Research, and the Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence, will each host a table of students and their families during the dinner.

"We are hosting a record number of Kentucky Collegians this year, and we are quite pleased that so many top students are considering the University of Kentucky," Witt said. "We look forward to celebrating their achievements with them, and we want to help them 'see blue' in their future."
