Kernel Announces New Staff for 2014-15 School Year

Published: May 5, 2014

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 5, 2014) — The Kentucky Kernel has named junior Morgan Eads as editor-in-chief for the 2014-15 school year. Eads is the current news editor of the Kernel and a journalism junior from Garrard County. She was an intern for the Lexington Herald-Leader last summer, the assistant news editor of the Kernel last spring, and a Kernel reporter in fall 2012.

Eads said she plans to put more emphasis on spot news in the upcoming year.

“One thing that I really want to tackle is making sure breaking news is a priority,” she said. “The big thing that I want to do is make sure the Kernel is the go-to place for students to find out what is going on."

Anne Halliwell, a sophomore from Lafayette, Ind., has been named news editor for the 2014-15 school year, Halliwell, currently a staff reporter at the Kernel, previously wrote for her junior high and high school newspaper.

Nick Gray will serve as editor for the summer 2014 Kernel and has been named managing editor for the 2014-15 school year. Gray, a junior journalism major from Lewis Center, Ohio, is currently the sports editor and beat writer for UK men's basketball. Gray has also covered volleyball, baseball and football in his two years at the Kernel.

Kernel Press, Inc. is responsible for interviewing candidates for the editorial position at the Kernel. The nonprofit board, comprised of several Kernel alumni, the director of the School of Journalism and the current editor-in-chief, chooses a new editor every year.
