Kitzman Appointed to PCORI Advisory Panel

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 11, 2013) — Patrick Kitzman, associate professor in the Division of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program in the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences, has been appointed to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Advisory Panel on Addressing Disparities.

Kitzman is a member of the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC) faculty and   director of the Kentucky Appalachian Rural Rehabilitation Network. Kitzman holds a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a doctorate in neuroscience from The Ohio State University, as well as bachelor's and master's degrees in physical therapy from UK.

On April 1, Kitzman was appointed to the Advisory Panel on Addressing Disparities where he will represent clinicians on the panel for a one-year term. The Advisory Panel on Addressing Disparities is one of four panels which advises and provides recommendations to help develop and improve PCORI's efforts toward meaningful patient-centered research.

PCORI aims to help people make informed choices regarding health care and improve health care outcomes by providing quality information from research from the health care community including patients and caregivers. One way PCORI receives relevant information from the health care community is through the four Advisory Panels.

According to PCORI's authorizing legislation, advisory panels must include representatives of practicing and research clinicians, patients, and experts in scientific and health services research, health services delivery, and evidence-based medicine who have experience in the relevant topic.
