Last Chance This Summer to Catch WUKY's Phoenix Fridays Concert

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 20, 2015) — WUKY's Phoenix Fridays summer concert series comes to a close for 2015 tomorrow night, Friday, Aug. 21, with performances by Turbo Fruits, The Vespers and Coralee and the Townies. The concert takes place in Phoenix Park; grounds open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 5:30 p.m.

Created by WUKY, the University of Kentucky's NPR station, and produced by the Downtown Lexington Corporation, the series has brought an outdoor concert to downtown Lexington the third Friday of each month since May. The series has featured well-known area bands as well as acts from around the country.

Coralee and the Townies are a Lexington, Kentucky, based band of a genre they self-define as honky tonk soul. The Vespers comprise two pairs of siblings — the Cryar sisters and Jones brothers, all natives of Nashville, Tennessee, who make their own kind of rootsy, southern stomp. Nashville is also home to Turbo Fruits who have made their name with notoriously wild live shows and frenetic rock songs; their latest album, "No Control," released last spring.
