Late Night Film Series Has Apocalyptic Theme, Funny and Serious
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2013) – The Late Night Film Series is screening “Zero Dark Thirty” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. The Late Night Film Series will screen “Y Tu Mama Tambien” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 as the third film of this semester’s International Film Series, which is presented in part by the Department of Hispanic Studies. Following will be the Late Night Film Series’ screening of “This is the End” at 10 p.m. Thursday. The Late Night Film Series is also screening “The Road Warrior” at 7 p.m. and “The Road” at 10 p.m. Friday Oct. 4. All films are free of charge and located in Worsham Theater in the UK Student Center.
Based on a true story, the CIA operative in “Zero Dark Thirty” is reticent to employ harsh interrogation tactics on prisoners following the World Trade Center attack, but she feels that is the only way to extract valuable information. A decade later she is confident that she has found Osama bin Laden and sends a team of Navy SEALs after him. (157 min. Rated R).
In “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” two friends meet a beautiful married woman at a wedding ceremony in the summer before they leave for college. In order to impress her they share plans of a fictitious journey to a beautiful beach but are left in a quandary when she decides to come along. (106 min. Rated R).
Cast as themselves in “This Is the End,” Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, and several other celebrities are faced with major problems when they attend the party of their friend James Franco. (107 min. Rated R).
A former policeman in post-apocalyptic Australia survives as a warrior in “The Road Warrior” and agrees to defend a group of survivors living in a gasoline refinery in the dangerous outback. With their lives and gasoline supplies threatened by a band of barbarians, Mad Max is their only hope in surviving. (94 min. Rated PG).
In “The Road,” the gray wasteland of post-apocalyptic America plays host to a man and his son as they undertake a dangerous journey southward in search of warmth. Armed only with a pistol, they must defend themselves against cannibals and the elements while finding the food and warmth needed to survive. (111 min. Rated R).
