Lifelong Learners Over Age 50 Invited to Open House

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 10, 2013) — Curiosity never retires; it joins the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Kentucky.

Adults age 50 or over who love learning for the joy of it are invited to the OLLI Open House Tuesday, Jan. 15. Join more than 1,100 dynamic adult learners in Lexington who share their ideas and interests — with no tests and no papers required.

The Open House is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Tates Creek Christian Church gymnasium, at 3150 Tates Creek Road in Lexington.

Attendees may preview and choose from more than 40 courses, special interest groups, forums and day trips for the spring. They will be able to chat with instructors, hear about upcoming speakers at the Donovan Forums, and learn about a variety of art and music events, a Saturday Seminar and special interest groups. The Open House also features refreshments and door prizes.

There are many ways to get involved with OLLI. Sign up for a spring course, such as British and American history, Shakespeare, composers, opera, languages, writing or genealogy. Get involved with the 65+ member chorus, take a yoga class, learn how to play a dulcimer or dabble in the visual arts. Members also can sign up to participate in special interest groups, or start a new one.

Registration tables will be open during the event. Annual membership through summer 2013 is $25. Course fees vary; however, most are $15 for the semester.

For more information and registration materials, please contact the OLLI Office at (859) 257-2656. Registration is now open and is on a first come, first served basis. Some courses will be filled before the Open House, so call as soon as possible for course information.
