Martin School Open House is Oct. 24

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2012) — Students interested in a career in government or non-profit management will have an  opportunity to meet faculty, staff, students and graduates of the University of Kentucky's Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at its annual open house.
The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Hilary J. Boone Center. Visitors can learn more about the Martin School and its graduate programs, including a new, accelerated one-year master's program.

The master of public administration degree offered by the Martin School is Kentucky’s top-ranked MPA degree and was ranked 16th nationally by U.S. News and World Report.  While the program’s specialization in public budgeting and finance is the most prominent, ranked second nationally, students may also specialize in education policy, not-for-profit management, transportation management, policy analysis, or a number of other fields.

This year, the Martin School will launch a new, one-year, accelerated MPA program. This program is designed to allow highly-motivated students to earn their degree at reduced cost of both time and money.

In addition to the MPA degree, the Martin School also offers the master of public policy, which trains students to become policy analysts. Graduates work in federal, state and local government, as well as in think-tanks and business.

UK is especially proud of the Martin School’s record of student awards. Students have won a national or regional award for their research for the past twenty years.  This year, doctoral students took three national awards: the SECOPA Collins Award for the best Ph.D. student paper (Zhiwei Zhang); the NASPAA Emerging Scholars Award (Robert Greer) and the NASPAA Best Poster Presentation Award (Bryan Gibson).
