Martin School Seeking Lyons Award Nominations

Published: Mar 13, 2014
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 13, 2014) — For the 20th time this spring, the University of Kentucky Martin School of Public Policy and Administration, together with the Department of Political Science in the UK College of Arts and Sciences, will honor an outstanding individual with the William E. Lyons Award for Outstanding Service.

During a long and distinguished career at UK, Lyons, who died in 1994, not only served for a time as director of the Martin School, he also was a professor of political science and public administration, chaired the political science department, chaired the Lexington-Fayette County Merger Commission in the early 1970s, served as a member of the Urban County Council, and worked tirelessly as chair or member of a number of other university and government committees.

After his death, the Martin School and the Department of Political Science established the William E. Lyons Award for Outstanding Service. This honor is given each year to an individual associated with the university who has given outstanding service to UK, the community, the state, or the nation.

Those wishing to nominate a person for this award, which includes an honorarium of $500 and a plaque, should submit a letter of nomination that includes information about the nominee's career accomplishments and especially, his or her service contributions to the university, the community and the state of Kentucky.
