Martin School Seeking Lyons Award Nominations
During a long and distinguished career at UK, Lyons, who died in 1994, not only served for a time as director of the Martin School, he also was a professor of political science and public administration, chaired the political science department, chaired the Lexington-Fayette County Merger Commission in the early 1970s, served as a member of the Urban County Council, and worked tirelessly as chair or member of a number of other university and government committees.
After his death, the Martin School and the Department of Political Science established the William E. Lyons Award for Outstanding Service. This honor is given each year to an individual associated with the university who has given outstanding service to UK, the community, the state, or the nation.
Nominations for the 2014 Lyons Award are now being accepted. Those wishing to nominate a person for this award, which includes an honorarium of $500 and a plaque, should submit a letter of nomination that includes information about the nominee's career accomplishments and especially, his or her service contributions to the university, the community and the state of Kentucky. Nominations must include the name, address, telephone number and email address of the nominator. If possible, please include a vita or résumé of the person you nominate.
