New Tool Helps Students Explore Insider Views on Careers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 12, 2013) — A video website offered by the James W. Stuckert Career Center is now offering access to informational videos of professionals speaking about their careers. Candid Career aims to make the initial stages of the career exploration process more effective for young adults.

Candid Career is a subscription based website that focuses on individuals and institutions by facilitating access to thousands of interview clips within the site’s video library. Through the service, students can learn about various career paths from the experts in their community, who are current employees in a particular field. The site has multiple search options for searching or browsing careers.

Although Candid Career is subscription based, it is free for all UK students to use if they go through the Stuckert Career Center website or Wildcat CareerLink.

Similar to YouTube, Candid Career videos can be viewed any time of the day. Videos are broken down into five key points:

• job description;
• rewards and challenges of the job;
• how to prepare to be successful;
• the interviewee’s career story; and
• final advice.

All interviewed professionals answer these questions to guide career hopefuls to the right path for them.

With interviews ranging from doctors and lawyers to deep sea fishermen and beyond, every student is bound to find insight on any career of interest.

"Variety and value of content is the key," said Stuckert Career Center Senior Assistant Director Theresa Mickelwait.

To get started, log in via the Wildcat CareerLink and click the Candid Career link under career exploration on the right or you can find it on the career exploration page of the center website at www.uky.edu/careercenter.
