Nursing Faculty Honored at National Conference

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 16, 2011) − Jane Kirschling, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, and Suzanne Prevost, associate dean for practice and engagement at the College of Nursing, are recipients of the prestigious State Awards for Excellence.

The award is given annually to a dedicated nurse practitioner advocate who has made a significant contribution to the status of health care delivery and the practice of nurse practitioners.

Kirschling and Prevost were honored during the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 26th National Conference in Las Vegas in June.

The State Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence, founded in 1991, recognizes a nurse practitioner in a state who demonstrates excellence in practice, research, nurse practitioner education or community affairs. In 1993, the State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate was added to recognize the efforts of individuals who have been made a significant contribution toward increasing the awareness and acceptance of the nurse practitioner.

The AANP was founded in 1985 and is the oldest, largest and only full-service national professional organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties. With more than 31,000 individual members and more than 165 group members, AANP provides national representation for approximately 140,000 nurse practitioners. AANP continually advocates for the active role of these providers of high-quality, cost-effective and personalized health care.
